The design of Little Kong is a testament to the oriental philosophy of balancing the virtual and the actual, the full and the empty. The lamp's most distinctive feature is its hidden LED beads, subtly tucked into the metal pole. This not only ensures the purity and emptiness of the lampshade but also sets Kong apart from other lamps. The designers achieved this unique feature after more than 30 experimental iterations, resulting in a perfect presentation of light and texture.
The lampshade of Little Kong is crafted using an advanced PC hot bending process, requiring high precision to achieve the desired shape. The surface texture is achieved through a special paint that ensures a uniform and smooth light-guide. The body of the lamp is made of aluminum alloy metal, treated with surface spraying. The minimal tolerances of the material allow for high precision, contributing to the compact size and structure of the lamp.
Little Kong is not just about aesthetics; it's also about functionality. The base of the lamp supports wireless charging and includes a USB port. The lamp can be turned on or off with a simple wave of the hand over the lampshade. This interactive feature, coupled with its technical specifications, makes Little Kong a versatile addition to any space.
The journey of Little Kong from concept to mass production took a year, with the project starting in May 2018 in Shenzhen, China. The design was showcased at the Hong Kong Lighting Fair in October 2018 and October 2019, receiving rave reviews. To date, more than 10,000 pieces of Little Kong have been delivered to users, bringing joy and convenience to their lives.
The design of Little Kong faced several challenges, including the molding process of the acrylic lampshade, the trial production of nanometer light conducting materials, and the sensitivity and noise suppression of the infrared sensor. Despite these hurdles, the design team at RUI Design & Above Lights persevered, resulting in a product that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also technologically advanced.
The innovation and uniqueness of Little Kong have not gone unnoticed. The design was awarded Silver in the A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2020, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation. With its blend of oriental aesthetics and modern technology, Little Kong is truly a beacon of design innovation.
